The Swim Edit: 6 Suits That Actually Fit, Flatter, and Stay Put
Swimsuit shopping is a bit of a mental game. You want something flattering, but also functional. Something you can swim in, tan in, throw a linen shirt over, and not feel like you’re in a compression garment or wearing dental floss. So we tested suits — real ones, in real bodies, in real situations (aka, heat, movement, and water).
Here are 6 pieces that passed the test and ended up either in our carts or on our bodies.
🐆 Reina Olga – Cheetah-Print Bikini
This one’s for the days when you want to feel like you own a vintage convertible and are vacationing in Sicily. The fit is surprisingly supportive for a triangle top, and the bottom ties let you adjust without cutting into your hips. We loved how the cheetah print somehow read bold but still wearable. Also: doesn’t go see-through when wet (yes, we checked).
🖤 ASOS – Black and White Bikini
We didn’t expect much at this price, but it ended up being one of our favorites. The contrast piping gives it a sleek 90s feel, and the cut of the bottoms makes your legs look longer — truly. It’s not padded, but the fabric is double-lined and secure. Perfect backup bikini that looks way more expensive than it is.
🔴 H&M – Red Bikini
Minimal, classic, and spicy in the right way. The bandeau top has a small center detail that gives shape without bulk, and the color is deep enough to avoid “children’s swimwear” energy. Best for tanning and light swimming, or layering under an oversized shirt for beach-to-bar situations.
✨ Mango – Shiny Swimsuit
This is a statement one-piece that still feels subtle. The shimmer isn’t glittery, just glowy — and the V-neck and high-cut leg combo is ultra flattering. You’ll get compliments. It also doubles well as a bodysuit under a wrap skirt or linen trousers.
💧 SKIMS – High-Waisted Bikini
This is hands down the most “hold-you-in-but-not-suffocate-you” set we tried. The waistband hits in the perfect spot, and the material feels luxe without being too thick. Also surprisingly fast-drying. We get why it keeps selling out.
🤎 Arket – Brown Swimsuit
If you want one classic, minimalist suit that makes you feel like an architectural digest cover model on holiday, this is it. The halter neckline is chic and the brown tone works on literally every skin shade. Looks especially good with wet hair and sunglasses.
What We Looked For
- Straps that stay in place
- Fabric that dries fast and doesn’t sag
- Cuts that flatter but don’t squeeze
- Swimwear that doubles as outerwear when styled right
- Price tags that don’t require crying in the checkout tab
Final verdict?
If you’re gonna pack one bikini and one one-piece this summer — make them versatile, comfortable, and a little bit bold. All six of these passed the wear-it-again test. And yes, we already reordered the red one.
